Yes, you can sign up with an international number (+[country or region code]).
Does Alipay accept international credit or debit cards?
Yes, Alipay supports Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Diners Club and other bank cards
Which payment QR codes do I generally use in China?
Open the app and tap "Scan" to pay in store, or show your payment code for them to scan.
Can I use Alipay to pay for taxi or bus fares?
Yes! Use "Scan" in taxis or hail a taxi online. You can also find the metro/bus QR code in the "Transport" section.
Departure Tax Refund (VAT Refund)
International visitors can apply for a VAT refund on eligible purchases when leaving Guangzhou.

Who can apply
- Non‑Chinese passport holders
- Short‑term visitors
- Departing Mainland China within 90 days of purchase

Eligible purchases
- Purchases made at designated tax‑refund stores
- Minimum spend: RMB 500 in the same store on the same day
- Goods must be unused and in original packaging

Refund amount
- VAT refund rate: up to 11% of the purchase value
- A service fee may be deducted from the final refund

How to get your tax refund
- Shop at a tax‑refund designated store and request a Tax Refund Application Form
- Before departure, present goods, passport and invoices at the customs counter for verification
- Submit stamped documents at the tax refund counter
- Receive your refund (cash, credit card, Alipay or WeChat Pay, depending on location)
